Description

This is a workshop for anyone who ever wanted to have an inspirational sketchbook but didn’t know where to start

In this one-day workshop we will go through the whole process of keeping a sketchbook which you can use in your textile work and show with pride at any gathering of stitchers (or artists).

The aim is to make keeping a sketchbook fun and not a chore, and to build your confidence that you are more than capable of making working sketches for creative inspiration, or just to record lovely days out (or romantic holidays if you are lucky).

I have a three-step process which takes you from gathering information and ideas from your five senses, selecting design elements to translating your ideas on paper.  I aim to get you to work fast so that we can try and stop that voice in your head telling you you are not doing it right, or not doing it well, in its tracks.  You will go home with completed sketchbook pages.

The day does not include lunch, but does include almost everything else.  There will be materials and supplies provided (and what is more fun than playing with other people’s stuff?)  I will provide an artist’s roll of art supplies for use on the day, but you will have to pay for it if you decide to keep it.  I will also provide some fabric and stuff for the afternoon session when we will go on to develop some ideas.

You will need to bring a sketchbook which has paper you like.  Bigger ones work better than smaller ones.  It will also be helpful if you bring a basic sewing kit: needles, thimble, sharp scissors, etc.

I will share a life-time’s experience of keeping sketchbooks and getting the textile effects you want based on your sketches.

I have about forty years of teaching adults.  I am calm, kind and patient.  I want you to succeed.  I want you to go away happy, but also excited and challenged.  Come and join us and say goodbye to your fear of sketchbooks forever.
